The open world

A mode, not a lobby with the rules off

The shared world is registered as a combat arena, so dying out there takes exactly the same server-decided path as dying in a ranked match. It is somewhere to be between queues and somewhere to spend a night on its own.

PvP everywhere, with green zones

Legion Square and Paleto Bay at ground level, plus every platform and deck safe zone carried over from the predecessor. Everywhere else is live.

A green zone refuses damage both ways

A safe zone you can shoot out of is an invulnerable firing position. Sprinting into one mid-fight does not save you either: anyone who has been at either end of a shot in the last fifteen seconds stands there killable, and is told why.

Passive mode you cannot abuse

A marker over your head says you are out of the fight. You have to be in a green zone to turn it on and to turn it off, so nobody walks up to somebody untouchable and drops it at point blank.

Respawn is manual

Nothing brings you back on a timer out here. You press the key when you are ready.

Patch yourself up

E for health and Y for armour, on five-second cooldowns, refused for five seconds after a fight. Both are performed by the server rather than applied by your client.

More than one copy of the world

One permanent world plus a small number of copies, so a group who wants the place to themselves and a player who wants to find people are not asking the same question. Every copy has the same geometry, the same green zones and the same atmosphere.

The redzones

One deck. One world per weapon.

The Trainyard platform inside a 150-metre ring, with a world for AP Pistol and another for Combat Pistol. Everyone in one stands on the same platform as everyone in the other, and neither can see the other.

  • Everyone fights with the same pistol. It is the only ground on the server where the fight is about aim and nothing else, and it is the thing players on the predecessor actually played.
  • You keep your own attachments. A suppressor and a scope change how the gun handles for you and nothing about what it does to anybody else.

Bounties

Killing gets you noticed

  • Kill somebody in the open world and the world is told. Your bounty is drawn in red over your head for everyone within 150 metres.
  • It rises one tier per kill and falls one tier every 150 seconds without one.
  • Dying clears it. So does going passive, and so does leaving.
  • Killing the same person twice inside three minutes pays nothing, so two friends cannot sit in a corner trading it.

Two maps nobody in Los Santos can see into

North Yankton

Snow, a small town, and a map most people have only seen in a cutscene. One world of its own.

Cayo Perico

The island, off the coast and out of sight of Los Santos. One world of its own.

Same rules and the same saved loadout, a different map and different people. Both have a soft boundary that warns you and counts down, and a hard one that puts you straight back.

The platforms

The platforms are still standing

Every gang platform from iSe.GG is still up there, along with the Creator and VIP platforms, the main lobby and the aim-training decks. They are a tribute, open to everyone and gated for nobody.

  • Twenty teleport pads are cut into the ramps. Walk onto one, press E, and your vehicle comes with you if you are driving it alone.
  • Nobody has to hold a role, buy a package or ask a staff member to stand on any of them.

Los Santos

Drop points across the city and the county.

The platforms

The main lobby and the decks above the map.

Gang platforms

The iSe.GG decks, kept standing for anyone who wants to see them.

Spectator decks

Overlooks for watching a fight without being in it.

Arenas

Every arena the match modes use, walkable outside a match.

Redzones

The Trainyard deck, one world per pistol.

Aim training

The ranges, for when you want to warm up somewhere quiet.

Travel is refused while you are dead and within fifteen seconds of a fight, so it can never be used to leave one.

Vehicles

Vehicles are entirely cosmetic

Spawn one from a catalogue, then set paint, finish, wheels, wheel colour, headlights, tyre smoke, horn, window tint and underglow, plus a custom plate. Pin five favourites. One vehicle per player at a time.

Every one of those nine settings is cosmetic and nothing else. No vehicle on the server is faster, tougher or harder to hit than another.

The world

It is busier when people know it is there

One permanent copy of the world plus a small number of extras, so a group who wants the place to themselves and a player who wants to find somebody are not asking the same question.
